Compare water based and solvent based PU adhesive

Because of eco-friendly concern, many countries and many brands prohibit adhesives of solvent content. More factories change to use water based PU adhesives, but many people are asking “can water based PU adhesive replace solvent based PU adhesive?”
 
Actually, the bonding strength of water based PU adhesive and that of solvent based PU adhesive are very similar. For some substrates which have pores, water based PU adhesive even has better final bonding performance. The waterproofing property and heat resistance property of water based PU adhesive are not significantly different from those of solvent based PU adhesive.
 
However, many people notice that water based PU adhesive is more expensive than solvent based PU adhesive. This is one factor that some people still insist to use solvent base. In fact, solid content of water based PU adhesive is generally higher than that of solvent based PU adhesive. Water based PU adhesive also causes less VOCs, so the cost for pollution control is reduced. As far as workers are familiar with the process of water based PU adhesive, the overall cost of water based PU adhesive is not higher than that of solvent based PU adhesive.
